What is “Prayer Walking”?
“Prayer walking” is another powerful tool in the
spiritual arsenal of your Small Group as you prepare for P.E.A.C.E. We
encourage your Small Group to organize a prayer walk some time
before your P.E.A.C.E. Project. This session is to help
increase your understanding of what “prayer walking” is
and its benefits. “Prayer walking” is simply
engaging in intercessory prayer aloud while walking about a place. It
is praying on-site with insight.
“On-site” is:
Praying for the people around you.
“Insight” is praying:
In response to what is seen and sensed as the Spirit reveals.
P.E.A.C.E. and “Prayer Walking”:
-
A Small Group seeking opportunities to conquer the five global
giants.
-
“Prayer walking” helps a Small Group gain new
insights about the people they want to reach and about God.
-
“Prayer walking” increases compassion for people
in the hearts of the Small Group members.
-
“Prayer walking” helps calm fears, erase prejudice,
and increases faith for Small Groups.
Benefits of “Prayer Walking”:
Read the Scripture passages listed below. Which
Scriptures are most encouraging to you?
-
Helps keep your focus intentional (Matt. 6:7).
-
Diminishes personal fear and anxiety as God’s victory
is proclaimed.
-
Allows you to see the Lord contend with evil (Luke 1:74;
I Jn. 4:17-18; II Thes. 3:2).
-
Leads to active prayers that cry out to the heart of God
(Ps 96:7-13).
-
Emboldens you to push through feelings of futility and intimidation.
-
Opens your eyes to see as God’s “watchman” and
not just be an observer of the culture or territory (Dan 6:10).
-
Gives you spiritual insight as you go.
-
Cuts darkness through the inspired Word of God acting as
the sword of truth (Ps 55:17-18).
-
Builds your confidence in Him and not in yourself.
-
Increases your compassion for the lost and your faith (Deut
3:24).
Benefits to those prayed for:
-
God is asked for breakthroughs where they are most needed.
-
Light will begin to dispel darkness.
-
Teams are interceding to the Father on behalf of the local
people.
-
Healthy responses are given to attack the global evil giants
that exist within a community.
It brings glory to God:
-
Pray echoing the Psalmist, “Be exalted, O God, above
the heavens, and Your glory above all the earth” (Psalm
108:5)
-
Listen to what God told the Psalmist, “Cease striving
and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth” (Psalm 46:10)
-
God can be exalted through intercessions.
